These take time!  But OMG are they worth it.  I like a cream cheese frosting on my cinnamon buns but a simple sugar glaze does the job too.

    Steps

    1
    Done
    5 minutes

    Blooming the Yeast

Put the milk and 1/4 cup of sugar into a small pan. Heat over medium until the sugar dissolves and the milk is warm but not hot - about 110 degrees.

    2
    Done

Remove from the heat then add the yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until it gets foamy. If that doesn't happen then your yeast isn't alive and your buns won't rise.

    3
    Done
    10 minutes

    Make the Dough

Add the flour, salt, and baking powder to the bowl of a mixer and combine.

    4
    Done

Add the milk mixture then the egg and melted butter.

    5
    Done

Mix the dough until it comes together then switch to a dough hook. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. You can also do this by hand.

    6
    Done
    2 hours

    Wait...

Put the dough into an oiled bowl. Then over the bowl and place in a warm spot. Let rise for about 2 hours until it's doubled in size.

    7
    Done
    1 hour

    More Waiting...

Punch down the dough and place in the fridge for at least an hour.

    8
    Done
    15 minutes

    Make the Buns

Once the dough is cold, take it out and place on a floured surface. Roll out to an even 1/4 inch thickness and as close to a rectangle as you can get.

    9
    Done

Mix the brown sugar, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice together in a bowl.

    10
    Done

Brush the dough with melted butter then sprinkle all of the sugar mix on top. Sprinkle any left over butter onto the sugar.

    11
    Done

Starting at the long side of the dough, roll the dough into a log that should be about 16 inches long.

    12
    Done

Slice the dough into 12 buns and place then into a 9x13 buttered baking dish.

    13
    Done
    1 hour

    Wait some more...

Cover the buns and place in a warm spot for about an hour. Alternatively, you can place them in the fridge overnight. In the morning, take them out and let them warm and get fluffy for about 2 hours.

    14
    Done

Bake the buns at 375 degrees until golden - 35-40 minutes. Serve warm.

    15
    Done
    10 minutes

    Make the Frosting

Place the butter and cream cheese into your mixer bowl. Mix for about a minute until well blended.

    16
    Done

Add the powdered sugar a cup at a time until light and fluffy.

    17
    Done

Add the vanilla and mix well.

    18
    Done

Spread on top of the warm buns and enjoy.
